Basic Electrical Safety Training (NFPA 70E)

Instructor-led basic electrical safety training for non-electrical workers. This four-hour course connects shock and arc flash hazards with potential injuries and covers safe use of cord-and-plug equipment, protective devices, grounding, and initial response to electrical incidents.

4 hours of instructor-led discussion and demonstration.

This course is intended for non-electrical workers whose duties may expose them to electrical hazards, including those who:

• Work near electrical equipment or electrical workers
• Use portable electric tools or extension cords
• Face a higher than normal risk of electrical shock in their assigned work

• Recognize electrical hazards, possible injuries, and unsafe working conditions.
• Explain the use and limitations of protective devices, grounding, and an assured equipment grounding conductor program.
• Assess portable electrical equipment, cord use, and utilization load scenarios for safer practices.
• Identify the appropriate initial response to electrical shock and fire incidents.

Topics include electrical basics; shock and arc flash effects; receptacles, switches, and power tools; GFCIs and grounding conductors; cord inspection and installation; battery and power line safety; and response to electrical incidents.
